Check each seller’s current return and cancellation terms and whether your chosen saree qualifies. Rules vary by fabric, customisation and item.

AN INDEPENDENT BUYING DIRECTORY

Where to Buy Sarees Online

Ten established commercial retailers and a separate public-sector directory. Selected for reputation, specialization and accessible buying information—not as an endorsement of every product.

Ten reputed commercial retailers

This ranking is our editorial view, based on track record, saree specialisation and reputation. Your experience and preferences may differ. Selection also considers a recognisable trading history, physical presence where applicable, and availability of product information. Ranking is not a guarantee of quality or a measured customer-service score.

An all-round starting point for regional sarees

Titan-backed multi-region retailer with a broad collection, useful fibre and loom disclosures on many individual listings, and choices from everyday fabrics to ceremonial silk. Check that a specific item is handwoven rather than assuming every saree is.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Classic Kanjivaram and traditional South Indian silks

A longstanding silk house particularly well suited to traditional Kanjivaram, wedding sarees and established South Indian styles. Compare silk type, zari composition and border work rather than relying on the silk-house name alone.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Wedding silks, Kanjivaram and revival weaves

A long-established Tamil Nadu retailer noted for ceremonial silk and distinctive colour, border and weaving experiments. A useful choice when comparing more traditional wedding saris with contemporary South Indian variations.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Gadwal, Uppada, Pochampally and ceremonial silk

A heritage retailer with particular depth in Andhra, Telangana and Kanjivaram sarees, including silk, zari-rich and wedding collections. Ask for explicit handloom, fibre and zari specifications on premium purchases.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Curated Kanjivaram, korvai and silk-cotton

A Chennai-based specialist suited to buyers looking for relatively curated classical sarees rather than enormous mixed-fabric catalogues. Particularly relevant for Korvai borders, South Indian silk-cotton and ceremonial choices.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

High-end Banarasi Kadhua and design-led handloom

A specialist for intricate Banarasi weaving, fine silks, Kadhua motifs and striking modern interpretations of traditional brocade. Best approached as a considered premium purchase: request close-up photos and exact yarn/zari details.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Handloom Banarasi Katan, Kora and brocade

A focused Banaras-based weaving business combining traditional silk brocades with a carefully curated contemporary palette. Good for comparing weave structures and designs within Banarasi rather than generic “silk saree” labels.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Accessible regional craft, contemporary styling and gifting

A large multi-brand retail platform for craft-influenced sarees, block prints, regional textiles and contemporary styling. Product material, artisan claims and return eligibility vary by label, so assess the exact SKU.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Chanderi, Maheshwari, Bengal craft and everyday handloom

An artisan-focused retailer with particularly broad access to regional cottons, silk-cottons, prints and craft textiles at approachable prices. Product-level details and origin stories help buyers explore beyond wedding silk.

Return & cancellation policy ↗

Bengal handlooms, cotton and design-led regional saris

A Kolkata-based specialist providing valuable eastern-Indian representation, especially Bengal cotton, handloom textures and more understated daywear. Particularly useful alongside South Indian and Banarasi-led retailers.

Government & cooperative sellers

State emporia and weavers’ cooperatives buy directly from registered weavers and are a valuable, often under-used route to regional handlooms. They are listed separately and unranked. Links and online ordering were checked on 19 October 2026; shipping coverage, prices and return terms vary, so read them on each site before ordering.

Government-run online stores

State corporations with their own working e-commerce.

  • Garvi Gurjari — Gujarat State Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation. Patola, Patan and single-ikat silks, Gujarati handlooms. garvigurjari.gujarat.gov.in
  • Mrignayani — the Madhya Pradesh government emporium. Chanderi and Maheshwari in particular. mrignayani.org
  • Biswa Bangla — Government of West Bengal’s crafts brand, sold through the Paschim Banga Marketing Corporation store (biswabangla.in now opens it). Tangail, Jamdani, Baluchari, Dhaniakhali, Santipuri. artisans.org.in

Weavers’ cooperatives that sell online

Cooperative societies with a functioning online shop.

  • Co-optex — Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society. Kancheepuram, Arni, Salem and Thirubuvanam silks and Tamil Nadu cottons. cooptex.com
  • Boyanika — Odisha State Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society. Sambalpuri, Bomkai and other Odisha ikat and handlooms. boyanika.com
  • Tantuja — West Bengal State Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society. Tangail, Jamdani, Baluchari and Dhaniakhali. tantuja.in

Catalogue or showroom first

Official, but online ordering was not confirmed in our check.

  • KSIC — Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation, maker of Mysore silk. An online catalogue with prices is published at ksicsilk.com; confirm ordering and delivery before relying on it, or buy from a KSIC showroom. Corporation site: ksic.karnataka.gov.in.

A government or cooperative label is a good sign of sourcing, not a guarantee about an individual saree. The usual checks still apply: fibre, loom, zari and a descriptive invoice.

Contemporary & designer saree labels

These brands offer a different kind of purchase: distinctive contemporary aesthetics, designer interventions and occasionally couture-level pricing. They are not part of the ten traditional/commercial retailer recommendations above, and a designer label alone is not a handloom certification.

House of Masaba

Signature prints and exuberant statement saris

Bold graphic motifs, colour and contemporary occasion wear. Especially relevant for festive events when design personality matters more than allegiance to a regional weave.

Raw Mango

Design-forward Indian textiles and modern heirlooms

An influential reinterpretation of Indian textiles using striking colour, silhouette and woven expression; individual fibre, technique and finish should still be checked.

Ekaya Banaras

Luxury Banarasi textiles with a modern silhouette

A weaving-led luxury label combining Banarasi textile knowledge with contemporary colour, styling and designer collaborations.

Anavila

Understated linen and relaxed modern drapes

Known for refined natural-texture dressing, subtle colour and elegant linen-based saris suited to contemporary day-to-evening wear.

Torani

Romantic prints, occasion saris and embellished sets

Expressive, often richly embellished designer sarees and pre-draped formats. Confirm whether a listing is an unstitched saree, stitched set or made-to-order piece.

Ritu Kumar / RI

Designer occasion wear with Indian textile vocabulary

A long-established design house offering dressier, print-led and couture-style saree options; assess the particular sub-label and garment category.

Designer purchases may have stricter terms for tailoring, made-to-order production, sale merchandise or bespoke blouses. Check dispatch dates and refund versus exchange rights on the exact product page.

How to buy more safely

  1. Match the product’s fibre, weave, handloom/powerloom claim and zari composition to its listed price—not just the region name.
  2. Read the current return and refund policy, noting exemptions for sale, customization and sarees with elaborate metallic-thread decoration.
  3. Look for documented Silk Mark (natural silk), appropriate Handloom Mark documentation, GI producer details where applicable, and a descriptive invoice. These confirm different things; none alone proves every claim.
  4. Keep order confirmation, specification screenshots and the seller’s written reply to any material questions.
