How the Atlas is researched, illustrated and occasionally corrected
The fine print, kept in one place: how images are produced, where facts come from, and how to send a correction.
Editorial transparency
AI & illustration disclosure
Curated by Gags & the Fabricated Intelligence. Generative AI assisted with research, drafting, editing and image creation. Editorial choices remain the curator’s responsibility.
AI image disclosure: Most textile and saree photographs are AI-generated educational illustrations, not authenticated textile specimens. Their details may be approximate; appearance alone cannot verify fibre, production method, precious-metal content, origin or commercial value.
People in the pictures: some portraits are AI-assisted or composite images that include real people’s likenesses, used with their permission; others show people who do not exist. The Atlas does not describe every depicted person as fictional, and a likeness will be removed on request.
Textile close-ups are synthetic editorial studies of what a texture or construction tends to look like. They are not microscopy, laboratory evidence or documentary photographs of an authenticated saree. To keep the pages readable, this disclosure is made once here and in the site footer rather than under every image; captions describe what the picture shows.
Names, constructions and trade terminology can vary by region and seller; pricing and certification requirements may change. For a purchase or provenance claim, verify details with qualified weavers, trusted textile institutions, labels and applicable certification authorities. This is an educational ready reckoner, not an authentication or valuation service.
Reference notes
Sources, pricing and illustration policy
The entries explain typical textile features and their limits. Any price ranges are indicative shopping references, not valuations or live market quotations. The list below includes public textile institutions and examples of contemporary retail pricing by specified product grade.
Corrections
Corrections and source transparency
Textile terminology, regional attribution, GI records, product claims and indicative market prices can change or need clarification. The Atlas welcomes documented corrections and aims to label uncertain information clearly.
To suggest a correction, write to hello@sareeatlas.com with the page or entry and, where possible, a source. Most entries carry a “Suggest a correction” link that starts the email with the page address filled in. Photo-credit and takedown requests go to the same address and are reviewed promptly. Corrections are made in the page itself; significant changes to a price or a factual claim are noted in the release record.
Retailer recommendations are editorial guidance, not an authenticity warranty; the online buying directory provides the scope and limitations of its selections.
The Saree Atlas is an independent, non-commercial educational resource. We receive no payment, free samples, affiliate commissions or other consideration from any featured retailer. Retailer ordering reflects editorial judgment, not guaranteed authenticity or a paid endorsement.
The original, all-illustrated loom images now used in Materials & Verification replace the documentary photographs credited in earlier editions, so no third-party photo credits are currently required.
